Paradise Found: The Top 10 Things To Do in Koh Rong Samloem

Top 10 Things To Do in Koh Rong Samloem

Take your time; there’s plenty of cool things to do in Koh Rong Samloem.

Our run-down of the top 10 things to do in Koh Rong Samloem takes you from the beach to the jungle and everywhere in between. If you grabbed your backpack and jumped on a place in search of the perfect Asian island experience then congratulations, you’ve found it!

10. Hit up White Beach for a sunbathing session

Turquoise water? Tick. White powdery sand? Tick. Cold beers and cocktails on tap? Tick! White Beach is everything you could want in a sunbathing destination, with beautiful views in front of you and all the amenities of town just behind. Grab a sun lounger and prepare to relax!

09. Learn to dive

Koh Rong Samloem isn’t as famous as some of the Thai destinations for diving, but the water is warm and clean here and the lack of reefs and wrecks makes for a bargain when it comes to learning to dive. Why not get your Open Water Certification on Koh Rong and then visit places like Koh Tao to do some leisure dives in the knowledge that you’ve saved a ton of cash!

08. Kayak the coastline

Renting a kayak and heading off to explore is a cheap and relaxing way to see the island. Start from Koh Toch village and hug the coast, calling in at any inlets or beaches that take your fancy. This is a great way to see different parts of Koh Rong Samloem without the crowds that accompany an organized day trip.

07. Volunteer with a local charity

If you feel like you’d like to give something back during your stay then get in touch with the Friends of Koh Rong Samloem, who will try and match your skills with local organizations in need of help. If you want something a bit more low key then how about helping out at a local bar in return for some free drinks? It doesn’t hurt to ask!

06. Party on a boat trip

With such stunning scenery surrounding the island, a boat trip is a great way to experience as many beautiful spots as possible. What the tours lack in seclusion (you won’t be the only people on the boat…) they make up for in food and atmosphere. A Cambodian BBQ on the beach and a few beers? What’s not to like!

05. Fly through the trees on a zip line

High Point Zip Line help you see the island from a different angle. Fly through the jungle canopy hanging from a series of high wires, with some rope bridges and swings added in for good measure. Wildlife is in abundance here so it counts as a nature experience as well as an adrenaline hit.

04. Hike to Long Beach from Koh Toch village

One of our favorite activities on the island, the walk from Koh Toch to Long Beach is a steep climb with some beautiful views. Start early to avoid the heat of the day and take a dip when you arrive on the other side of the island to celebrate your achievement. Jump on a long tail boat back to town if you don’t want to walk both ways.

03. Visit the Jungle Zoo

This small private zoo is a great place to chill out and see some native plants and animals. The owner, Olga, has hand-selected everything here and is often on hand to explain what you’re looking at. Bring mosquito-repellent though as you’ll be right in the middle of the jungle!

02. Do the ‘Blob Jump’

Not quite as rude as it sounds, the Blob Jump is an inflatable platform at the end of Sok San beach where you can take it in turns jumping onto the airbag to catapult your friends into the sea. Good fun and the perfect way to deal with a hangover.

01. Snorkel the beautiful beaches

With so many beaches to choose from, the snorkeling here is amazing. Seahorses, parrot fish, sergeant fish and ribbon-tail rays float lazily past as you explore the reefs and coves off the coast of the island. Pick a different beach every day and see what Koh Rong has to offer. Just remember to put sunscreen on your back else the pleasure will soon turn to pain!

Kong Rong Samloem is a perfect place to relax

Koh Rong Samloem is everything that you could ask for in a holiday island. Plan to spend a bit of time here to make the most of what it has to offer. This is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of place!
