No need to get all romantic if you’re heading to some of the best places to watch the sunset in Chiang Mai. Surrounded by the stunningly beautiful nature of this countryside, you are going to catch some truly instagrammable moments.
Rabeang Pasak Treehouse
Amazingly photogenic with its wooden huts tucked away amongst the beautiful trees. Rabeang Pasak Treehouse Resort hides one of those perfect sunset locations. Within the main campsite, teak cottages like Tamarind House climb up into the canopies from where you can enjoy the sun setting across the treetops.
A short cycle ride from the village, Sunset Point is where you’ll capture the best Chiang Mai sunset views though. From around 5pm onwards, a soft golden glow spreads across the mountains as the day comes to an end. Time to head back to camp and curl up in front of the campfire.
Chiang Mai Grand Canyon
Looking to capture a great #reflectiongram, Chiang Mai’s Grand Canyon has got to be on your best Chiang Mai sunset list.
Head out during the day and have fun cliff jumping and swimming in the blue waters of the Hang Dong Quarry (it’s other name). With two waterparks packed full of stuff to do, it’s a blast; especially if you’re up for Ziplines and Zorbs.
As the heat of the day recedes, head up to The Tuang Thong Canyon View Restaurant. Grab some BBQ and a beer before the sun sets. Looking out over the blue waters, watch the red clay cliffs turn a mind-blowing orange in the last rays of the day.
Camping Meating
Hey, I got to admit I love my BBQ and that’s why I’m heading to Camping Meating. Although 30 minutes outside of Chiang Mai, these sunsets here are pretty cool too!!
Lakeside glamping at its best and seriously cheap too!! 50$USD for prime chum steak and a view to die for. Get your shopping in at the local ‘grocery store’ before heading over to your own private grill station. Start your meal prep early so that you can catch a spot beside the lake. Chilled tunes fill the evening air as you watch the evening light change. Disappearing over the mountain range in Mae Rim, the reflection of the glowing sun (and all your fellow hipsters) fills the camp with a warm, honey-coloured vibe.
Chiang Mai Rooftop Yoga
You must be tired after all this running around capturing the sunset in awe-inspiring locations. You gotta take some me-time and the perfect way to do that is rooftop yoga! If you’re in need of a little super-chilled wind-down but still want to capture that essential sunset moment (and keep it to yourself), why not join Rooftop Yoga in Chiang Mai.
At the top of Tower A at The Astra Condo, practice Hatha Yoga in the open air. With views of Doi Suthep and the end of the Himalayan mountain range Doi Inthanon, feel the mountain pose as you take in the beautiful close of this day. The Chiang Mai Sunset sessions start at 17:00 with sun salutations taking on a whole new meaning.
The Roof – Sala Lanna
At the end of the day, one of the best Chiang Mai sunset locations is the newly opened The Roof. The name kinda says it all. It’s a bar on the rooftop of the Sala Lanna Chiang Mai Hotel in Riverside Chiang Mai.
With a stunning 360° panorama of the Ping River, the city and even the mountain range of Doi Suthep. The roof is the perfect place to sit and take it all its beauty in. If you’re not staying at the hotel, you’ll only have access from 18:00 to sit and wonder at this vista as the sunsets. It gets even better as there is a ‘buy one get one free’ happy hour on all drinks from 18:00–19:30. Add in live music and the flickering light of lanterns and candles reflecting in the pool, this is definitely the top sunset location in Chiang Mai, both figuratively and literally.
