Our Essential Shopping in Bali Advice
When you’re not drinking to your heart’s content or enjoying some of the best surfing in Indonesia, it might be a good idea to take a break. If you’re thinking of shopping in Bali then we recommend leaving some space in your suitcase – you’re going to need it! Bali offers a variety of unique shopping experiences. Designer shopping malls are full of international brands that will enable you to upgrade your travellers wardrobe, while more traditional village markets are perfect for finding souvenirs for your family and friends back home.
No matter where you are in Bali, you will never regret taking a day to explore the shopping options available to you on the island. Our quick top tip? Don’t just head for big shopping centres and malls in the bigger urban areas. Source out the local markets, dive into the nighttime scene and get local!
Shopping Malls in Bali
You will usually find a shopping mall or two at every major resort in Bali. A favourite is Kuta Beachwalk, which contains a number of luxurious and boutique brands over three open and airy floors. You will also find a cinema and food court. Another worth visiting is Seminyak Village, a modern shopping centre with well known fashion outlets.
Bali Night Markets
Visiting a night market will enable you to find local snacks and traditional household items used by the Balinese people. They can be a little chaotic, with crowds of people navigating through tight stalls. However, this authentic atmosphere is all part of the fun. If you’re visiting Ubud then be sure to check out the Gianyar night market, a hidden gem with a diverse range of local foods and products. Some respectful haggling should get you a bargain, also.
Shopping Streets in Bali
Ubud, Kuta and Seminyak all contain shopping streets with everything from traditional markets and shops to art galleries. You will also stumble across plenty of dining spots and bars where you can have a break and a beer during your shopping experience.
Jalan Pantai Kuta, based near Kuta beach, has all the holiday essentials, a Hard Rock Cafe, and one of Bali’s oldest restaurants, Made’s Warung, one of the oldest restaurants in Bali. Ubud Art Market is fantastic for silk scarves and light beach clothes. Bali craftsmanship is evident at this market, where the items are often of higher quality than elsewhere.
Homeware and Furniture Shops
Furniture and homeware are often of high quality in Bali. Unique items sourced from rural craft villages are displayed by enthusiastic store owners. The diverse nature of the products means you’ll find something to suit your home. The Kamala Home Boutique Showroom in Ubud is a must visit for contemporary designer furniture and decor. The silk cushions and bed covers are great for adding a touch of Bali to your bedroom.
#Bodega4Life Insider Tip
Be respectful while haggling. While haggling is essential in tourist areas, you are more likely to get a good deal if you are smiley and friendly with the seller. Also, if you don’t feel confident haggling, then stick to the department stores where the prices are fixed!
