How to Make Your Friends Jealous: The 5 Most Instagram-Worthy Islands in Thailand
Make yourself snap-happy and your friends jealous with our guide to the most incredibly gorgeous Instagram-worthy islands in Thailand.
The long list of Thai islands are renowned the world over for their turquoise waters, golden sands and spectacular sunsets. Of course, that makes for a great holiday and you’re bound to have an awesome time sipping cocktails in tropical paradise. But what else does it make for? Great photos as well!
The only thing better than sitting in paradise is letting all your friends know you’re doing it with some sick Instagram shots, so here are our recommendations for where to head to get that perfect pic.
Koh Lipe
Let’s start with a beach classic. Koh Lipe has bright white sand and clear turquoise water, so you’re getting the quintessential Thai experience here. A photo on the palm-fringed beach sums up the Thailand of the imagination and if you throw in one of the many relaxed beach bars in the background then you’re into postcard territory.
Koh Similan
Similan may not be the most visited of the Thai islands but it has something quite unique to offer- underwater experiences with manta rays and whale sharks. Yes, you’ll need to invest in an underwater camera to get the perfect shot, but yes, it’s worth it! A day trip with 2 dives starts at 5,000 baht and can be booked from Bodega Phuket or Khao Lak and is rated as one of the most memorable things you can do in Thailand.
Koh Phi Phi
Time for the big hitter! Phi Phi is the most famous island in Thailand and it shows; a visit here isn’t a solitary experience. The upside however is that it’s popular for a reason, and the limestone karst cliffs dropping into the clear blue waters are absolutely stunning. Come here to get the classic Thai Instagram shot that all your friends will recognize, featuring you in the foreground. Expect lots of jealousy and people wanting to re-read The Beach!
Koh Phangan
This one is less about desert island bliss and more about shots of you having an awesome party with a ton of people you’ll probably never see again. It’s Full Moon Party time! Held every month in the southern beach resort of Haad Rin, the parties are wild and very photogenic. Think very little clothing and neon body paint. It’s recommended to wait until the next day to post on the ‘Gram as your sober brain might be a bit better at quality control…
Koh Lanta
Finally then, Koh Lanta is a much more relaxing prospect. Small fishing villages sit along a golden sand coastline with a lush green jungle backdrop and tourist resorts are few and far between. If you want to get some shots of the traditional way of life then head for the Old Town where historic teak shophouses are still abundant and boutique cafes and galleries offer some great Instagram opportunities. A great place to chill out at the end of your trip.
You’re spoilt for choice!
These are just a few suggestions of great places to start but the choices are endless. Thailand is a country with beauty around every corner so grab a map, pick an island and go explore. Your Insta will thank you for it!
