All the Transportation Options: How to Get to Khao Lak
Wondering how to get to Khao Lak from Phuket airport? Of course you are, you’ve touched down in and you’re ready to hit the beach and kick back. But there’s just one problem- there’s a fair few kilometers of road between them! With some flights arriving in the early hours of the morning it can help to have a bit of prior knowledge when it comes to making your way to Khao Lak from Phuket airport.
Here’s a run-down of the options.
Taxi From Phuket Airport To Khao Lak
The priciest but easiest option first- take a taxi. No matter what time your flight arrives there’s guaranteed to be someone waiting to pick you up- the taxi drivers know the flight schedules after all, and they’re not lacking in business sense!
A one-way trip is likely to cost between 1,250 baht and 2,000 baht ($40-$60) depending on the time of day and your haggling skills (nope, taxis in Phuket aren’t cheap!) so better grab some friends in immigration and share the cost.
Shared Van From Phuket Airport To Khao Lak
There’s no set van route from the airport to Khao Lak, but that’s not to say that you couldn’t arrange a van to meet you in advance. This is only really an option if there are several of you as the cost is likely to approach $100, but if you have any empty seats then you could always try and sell them to other travelers when you arrive.
Public Bus From Phuket Airport To Khao Lak
The bad news is that there’s no public bus from the airport terminal to Khao Lak. The good news is you don’t have to travel too far to find one! If you luck out and find someone heading into Phuket Town then you could beg a seat in their car out of the airport complex; if not then jump on the hourly orange airport shuttle bus that heads towards Phuket Town.
if you don’t mind waiting on the side of the road for a bus to come past then you can jump out of your transport as soon as reach the main north-south road. If you’d rather get on the Khao Lak bus at the start of its journey however (thus making it way more likely that you’ll get a seat), then carry on all the way to Phuket Town bus station, and pick it up there.
The Cheapest Way To Get To Khao Lak
Any bus headed for Ranong or Takua Pa will go past Khao Lak so there will be plenty of choice and you shouldn’t have to wait too long. The fare depends on which bus company you take but we’re talking something in the region of 100 baht ($3.50), so this is by far the cheapest way to get to Khao Lak.
The Destination Is Worth The Journey
No matter how you choose to get to Khao Lak, you can look forward to a great time when you get there. Welcome to your new favorite place in the Land of Smiles!
