Find Your Zen at The Best Places for Yoga in Bali

No trip to this Indonesian paradise is complete without a sun salutation or two, so our guide to the best yoga spots in Bali is a great place to start. Yoga is right up there with meditation retreats as the kings of finding inner peace. And there really isn’t a better place to get your fix than in Bali!

The island is tailor-made for yoga with its warm weather, beautiful views, spiritual locals and a tradition of taking time to contemplate life, the universe and everything. So where are the best places to get started?

The Yoga Barn, Ubud

Let’s start with a well-established studio in the yoga hub of the island, Ubud. Studio-cum-resort The Yoga Barn offers everything that a yogi might need, from teacher training courses, multiple classes a day in one of its five yoga studios, a restaurant offering delicious and healthy and food and even occasional movie nights. If you love it then you can stay here as well as accommodation is available on site. You might have to share studio space with quite a few others as this place is deservedly popular.

Classes Offered: Vinyasa flow, power, hatha, yin, restorative and meditation

Cost: $9 for one class or $70 for a set of 10, with more discounts for buying even more at the same time

Address: Jalan Raya Pengosekan, Ubud (near the Coco supermarket and Monkey Forest to the south of the center)

Ubud Yoga House

Staying in Ubud but with a very different vibe, our next pick is Ubud Yoga House. This is pretty much the opposite of The Yoga Barn in terms of size and feel; maximum classes here are 12, and it’s basically just an operation run out of the owner Sheila’s house! If you have dreams of blissful meditation sessions gazing out over Indonesian rice paddies, then this is the place for you. You can pick from a range of yoga styles here including a beautiful sunrise hatha class which is highly recommended.

Classes Offered: Sunrise hatha, vinyasa, yoga for beginners, meditation

Cost: $9 for one class or $63 for a block of 10

Address: Through the rice paddies between Jalan Raya and Sari Organik restaurant

Blue Earth Village, Amed

There may come a time when you want to leave Ubud for your yoga practice, and if that time comes then Blue Earth Village, on the eastern coast near the settlement of Amed, is highly recommended. Blue Earth is more than just a yoga studio, it’s a community that’s built around a yogic way of life. Their aim is to make Amed an educational travel destination with a focus on sustainability and a visit here is a very peaceful experience. You can even combine some yoga classes on their open deck overlooking the sea with a bit of freediving if you like! The views of volcanic Mount Agung are simply breath-taking and we guarantee you won’t want to leave.

Classes Offered: Hatha, Vinyasa, ‘Fly high’, Yin

Cost: From $9 per class, booking recommended

Address: Above Jemeluk Bay, near Amed village to the east of the island

Morning Light Yoga, Uluwatu

Combining two of our favorite activities, Morning Light Yoga allows you to take a hatha class in the morning and hit the surf in the afternoon. Uluwatu consistently offers fun surf swell as well as a great yoga destination, and a trip here allows you to combine both in one go. The yoga deck is open-air with beautiful views of the jungle to one side and the sea to the other. The free coconut to all class-goers is a nice touch, and they pride themselves on being suitable for everyone, from beginners to experienced yogis.

Classes Offered: Ashtanga, Hatha, Vinyasa, restorative

Cost: $8.50 per class

Address: Uluwatu Surf Villas, Jalan Pantai Suban, Uluwatu, Kabupaten Badung

Seminyak Yoga Shala, Seminyak

If your stay in Bali is focussed around the core areas of Seminyak and Kuta then you still have some great yoga options. The Seminyak Yoga Shala is a great example of grabbing some peace in the middle of the Indonesian hustle and bustle, as their studio is only a few hundred meters from the main beach but feels worlds apart. Both local and western teachers are resident here and you can choose from a range of hatha flow, vinyasa flow and yin classes on a regular basis. This place is small but perfectly formed and is the best choice to find some headspace far from the madding crowd.

Classes Offered: Yin, Hatha Flow, Vinyasa Flow, Ashtanga (including the Mysore Ashtanga Program, check with the studio)

Cost: $10 for one class, 5 class pass $42 and 11 class pass $84

Address: Jalan Raya Basangkasa 1200B, Kuta
