The Best Pizza in Bangkok: The Italian Job

When you’ve had your fill of pad thai and som tam and you’re ready for a taste of home, it’s time to seek out a bit of western comfort food and with that, the best pizza in Bangkok. Pizza rocks at any time of the day but when you’re hungover after one of our legendary Bodega pub crawls it’s particularly good. Bangkok has got some banging pizza places to pick from, some of which deliver straight to the hostel, so here’s our choice of the best.

Pizza Mania: Possibly the best pizza in Bangkok?

Locals and tourists both rave about this place, and with good reason. Also worth noting that it is literally one block away from Bodega Bangkok. Yeah, it’s just the next alley down from us actually. Done deal?

The menu changes depending on the time of year and which fresh ingredients are available, and the quality is always great. If you’re hungry then just crack straight on with an 18-inch size, it’s better value than the smaller sizes and if you don’t finish it all then that’s breakfast sorted for the next day anyway.

The bases here are slightly thinner than a deep pan pizza would be at home, but it’s still a great rendition and one of the best in South East Asia. If you want to add extra sauce then they’ll chuck it on free of charge, but make sure to ask for extra cheese if you’re a fan as you might notice the lack otherwise.

If you want something extra alongside your pizza then Pizza Mania does Caesar salads, wings, garlic bread, you name it. Prices start from 150 baht ($5) for a salad, 120 baht ($4) for BBQ wings and 260 baht ($8) for a 12-inch cheese pizza so killing your hangover here won’t break the bank. It’s an order-only place, so just pick your pizza and kick back at Bodega until the good stuff arrives.

Pala: Italian Pizza Perfection

The queues out the door at Pala tell you all you need to know- the pizza here is damn good and it’s worth waiting for? The full name is Pala Pizza Romana and they specialize in Italian-style pizzas with a thin and crispy base and a ton of fresh toppings to choose from.

The good food at Pala actually starts in the morning, as they open in time for the breakfast crowd and serve up decent pastries and eggs until about midday. Later in the day you’ll be able to score some classic Italian starters like bruschetta, burrata and platters of antipasti, although these are high quality imports so expect to pay a little more than a usual Thai restaurant for the pleasure.

The pizza course comes next, and this is pizza like you’d get in Rome itself. The bases are stretchy and crunchy with a hint of salt, and the fresh tomato sauce they use is a delight. Expect to pay 185 baht ($6) for bruschetta, 335 baht ($11) for pork ravioli and 570 ($18) for a half meter margherita pizza. Yep, the pizzas here are rectangular and they come in half meter or one meter size! Trust us, you’ll can easily get through a meter of this deliciousness.

Gallery Pizza: Feel Good Food

When the owners of Gallery Pizza decided to open a pizza delivery business in Bangkok, they did things the right way and headed straight to Italy to do some first-hand research. The result is pretty impressive! They’ve created what they think is the world’s best dough recipe and we can’t find much wrong with it, to be fair.

The menu here spans all your usual pizza classics, although they don’t offer quite as many extras as the first two places on our list. You’re still spoilt for choice through and they’re also easy on the wallet, with frequent 2-for-1 offers running and a discount if you buy more than one salad.

Where Gallery wins out is the fact that they’ve partnered with Sathorn 11 Art Space, one of the most interesting art galleries in Bangkok, to promote local art and provide employment opportunities to their local resident artists. Basically what we’re saying is that you can order from here and feel good about yourself! Prices start from 265 ($8.50) for a standard Margherita and go up to 385 baht (£12) for a Honey Napoli special, but you can normally get two of any pizza for 499 baht ($16) so actually it pays to team up with a buddy and order together.
