Unmatchable Atmosphere at the Best Bars in Sukhumvit, Bangkok
If you’re looking for the best bars in Sukhumvit then you’ve come to the right place. Bangkok has seen an explosion of cool places to drink in recent years, and Sukhumvit is the epicenter of this new trend. There are no shortage of places to grab a cold beer and they’re all close to Bodega Bangkok!
Iron Fairies Gin Bar
Iron Fairies isn’t your typical Bangkok bar. Gone are the bottles of Chang and plastic stools, replaced instead by fantastical iron sculptures and a cocktail list packed full of drinks with names straight out of a fairy story. Iron Fairies is the brainchild of Ashley Sutton, who has brought a touch of his background working in an iron foundry in Australia to this stylish corner of Bangkok. The cocktails are strong, the lighting is muted and the hangovers are worth it.

Brewski Rooftop Bar
Straight in at the start is Brewski, our favorite budget rooftop bar. The prices are reasonable, there’s a great beer selection (more than 100 craft brews!) and the views are spectacular from its perch on the 30th floor. It feels like an exclusive place without the price tag! The cocktail list is decent and they show major sports events on big screens dotted discreetly around the place.

Margarita Storm
Margarita Storm isn’t just a straight bar, it’s also a bistro which specializes in high quality American and Mexican food so it’s a great place to head for a meal and drinks. As you’d expect, the margarita cocktails are good and the tequila packs quite a punch. If you want to try something to soak up all that booze then the Wagyu beef burgers come highly recommended.

Scruffy Murphy’s
Who doesn’t love an Irish pub??! Scruffy Murphy’s is everything you expect it to be. Good beer, fun atmosphere, big crowds at the weekend and an excellent craic. Stop by during the day for a roast dinner or a fry-up, or stop by at any time for a well-poured pint of Guinness. If you happen to be in Bangkok for St Patrick’s Day then you know where to go!

The Black Swan
A traditional English pub in the heart of Thailand, the Black Swan serves up big portions of food alongside a range of local and imported beer. If you’re yearning for a steak or a pie then this is the place to come! It’s not the cheapest joint in town but stuffing your face here on a hangover is well worth the price tag.

Hours of Operation: 8am – 1am daily
Hemingway Bar and Garden Restaurant
Long a Bangkok institution, the original Hemingway Bar and Garden Restaurant closed at the end of 2016 as the land was earmarked for redevelopment. Not to be shut down for good though, they’ve reopened just down the road at Soi 11! Is the new place as good as the old, expat-friendly teak paneled version? Not, not quite, but it’s still well worth a visit. The menu serves up a ton of western classics and the beer is cold. If you love meeting random characters on your travels then this is the place to head.

J Borowski Mixology
Rocking a slightly more sophisticated atmosphere than the last few picks, J. Borowski is a sleek and polished cocktail bar with an authentic speakeasy vibe. The bar staff are knowledgeable and can mix you up a customized drink depending on your mood, and the décor is dark and inviting. There’s no food on offer here but it’s not really a bar snacks kind of place. One for the serious cocktail drinkers among us.

Clubhouse Sports Bar and Grill
Our last pick is everything you want from a classic sports bar, with good beers on tap and some great quality bar food. All major sporting events are shown here so whether you want to watch soccer, boxing or UFC, this is always the best place to be. There’s music from a live band when there isn’t anything major on the big screens and the atmosphere is friendly.
