Koh Phi Phi is a beautiful island paradise located in the Andaman Sea, known around the world for its beautiful coast and unstoppable parties. Apart from the stunning skylines, lush forest and high-energy nightlife, Phi Phi is also an exciting place to explore local cuisine. Being a popular destination for backpackers, Phi Phi has an array of budget-friendly options for food that are available almost 24 hours a day. However, for vegan backpackers and travelers, finding plant-based options can be a challenge as there are close to zero exclusively vegan eateries on the island. In this guide, we’ll highlight some of our favorite vegan-friendly restaurants and cafés in Koh Phi Phi.
I. Garlic – since 1992
Garlic Restaurant is an institution in Koh Phi Phi. It’s been around for decades so they have pared the process of cooking delicious food down to a science.
Their food is very affordable and you can easily chow down a full meal for less than ฿200.
While they are not exclusively vegan, they have a variety of vegan and vegetarian dishes (mostly Thai cuisine). Be sure to specify that you’re vegan, as some dishes may contain non-vegan ingredients like fish and oyster sauce. The staff are friendly, attentive and will be happy to accommodate your dietary requirements.
We recommend their Tofu Massaman Curry! It comes with huge chunks of silky-soft tofu that will melt in your mouth.
It can get pretty crowded because of how popular it is, so be prepared for a few minutes’ wait.

II. Tommy’s
Tommy’s is a lovely open-air restaurant / sports bar that has a variety of high-quality food options.
They are not exclusively vegan but they have some exciting options on their menu.
When you’re in the mood for a night out, and you’re looking for a fun place to grab some dinner – pick Tommy’s.
We recommend their vegan shiitake tempura with sesame dipping sauce. Hungry yet?

III. Jaja Spice Cafe
Jaja Spice Cafe is a tiny cafe that serves up some delicious vegan and vegetarian grub. Make sure to specify what your dietary requirements are.
Jaja is on the pricey side of the spectrum as far as food on Phi Phi goes. We still give them a big thumbs up for their breakfast menu and friendly service.
We recommend their vegan coffee – it’s definitely the best quality and flavor on the island. Yes, we’ve tried them all.

IV. Papaya
If you’re vegan or vegetarian, Indian food is an easy go-to. Lucky for you, Koh Phi Phi Don has Papaya.
They’re not exclusively vegan or vegetarian, so again – specify what you’re looking for.
Papaya is an open-air, simple and casual eatery so don’t go here expecting fine dining standards!

V. The Mango Garden
Yes, the name of the restaurant is a good description of their menu too! Go here if you want mango waffles, mango smoothies or the world-famous mango sticky rice.
The Mango Garden is not the cheapest bite to eat on the island, but we give it points for its location.

Conclusion
Although Koh Phi Phi may not be known for its vegan cuisine, there are still plenty of options available for those who are plant-based. Why should your love for travel be dampened by your diet? Go forth and eat!
