The 5 Best Luxury Restaurants in Koh Samui: Get a Taste of the High Life

Treat Yourself at The Best Luxury Restaurants in Koh Samui

While it may be out of your typical backpacker budget, fine dining at luxury restaurants in Koh Samui is absolutely worth it. It’s a big switch from what we offer at Bodega Koh Samui and with a price tag to match. While you can happily spend your days lazing on the beaches and enjoying the jungle interior, when it comes to the evening there’s nothing better than sipping a cocktail at sunset followed by enjoying some of the best food that the country has to offer. Here’s a run-down of some of our favorite luxury restaurants on the island.

Zazen

If you’re looking for romance then look no further than Zazen on Bophut Beach. This is the classic beachside restaurant of your imagination, with candlelit tables overlooking the sand and a long open frontage that allows every table to take advantage of the sound of the sea gently lapping at the shoreline. The food is a mix of high-end Thai and Western, with local herbs used for flavorings and imported ingredients like Wagyu beef and Canadian lobster making for an impressive menu. The attached resort and spa are a delightful place to stay if your wallet can afford it! Meals start from a reasonable 825 baht ($26).

Jahn

The clifftop views from Jahn would be reason enough to visit, but the food is something else as well. Throw in a cocktail at sunset and this is one of our favorite places on the island! The food here is mainly Thai but with a gourmet twist, and dishes like the sea bass in ginger and lightly spiced scallops are a delight. Jahn is a Conrad brand restaurant and has a wine list to match, so you can come here for a tasting menu with paired wines and know that you’re going to get the best. Expect to pay 3,300 baht ($100) for the tasting menu or 5,499 baht ($175) with the wine pairing.

Saffron

Saffron is the restaurant of the opulent Banyan Tree resort, so you know you’re getting quality here. If you’ve visited their flagship Vertigo Bar in Bangkok then you’ll already have an idea of the atmosphere; quiet, understated elegance mixed with a tropical twist as a nod to Koh Samui. There are beautiful views out to sea through the huge glass windows and if you fancy an al fresco experience then the outside terrace is delightful. You feel like you’re being served delicious food in the middle of the jungle! The menu is a journey through all the Thai classics, with mains starting from 600 baht ($19).

Ocean 11 Restaurant Bar & Lounge

If you fancy having a change from Thai food then Ocean 11 is a great place to eat. The chef here is German and has won multiple awards in Europe for his modern approach to cuisine and menu design. The vibe here is relaxed quality, with heavy wooden furniture inside and a fun, unusual sand terrace outside. The menu is heavily influenced by Mediterranean flavors and this is the favorite haunt of A-listers who visit the island. A seafood dish like tuna tartar will set you back 420 baht ($13) and a banana leaf-wrapped white snapper will set you back 650 baht ($20).

Namu

Our final pick is something a bit different. Japanese in theme, Namu is more than just a restaurant, it’s a full dining experience. There are a few tables scattered outside which are delightful in themselves, but the real pleasure is taking a seat at the communal teppanyaki counter inside where you can watch the chefs at work. The menu is a homage to Japan with soft shell crab, sashimi, Wagyu steak and sushi rolls all highly rated. It’s not the cheapest place on the list with a set menu likely to cost upwards of 2500 baht ($80), but this is a truly memorable place for dinner.
