The Best Hotpot Restaurants in Bangkok: Aesthetically and Tastebud Pleasing

When hunger strikes in the Thai capital and you want to try something a little different, how about heading along to one of many hotpot restaurants in Bangkok? They’re not your average place to eat, based on a cook-your-own ethos and with raw ingredients being delivered to the tables, but the food tastes great and they’re a fun place to hang out with a group of friends.

Although it’s not anything like the street food experience of Bangkok, it’s one of the ways locals love to spend a meal together! You choose what you want to cook, you choose the cooking sauce that goes into the pot in the middle of the table, and you’re responsible for how well it turns out! Sound like something worth checking out? Here’s our pick of Bangkok’s best:

Shabu Shabu Nangnai

This first place is actually part of a chain, but that just means that quality is guaranteed and you know you’re getting value for money. The attractive wooden furniture and uncluttered feel of these restaurants is a nod to the hotpot’s Japanese roots, and the food really is the star of the show here. If you can’t decide on what you want to order then go for a combo or visit when their buffet is running, as it lets you try a bit of everything! The prices are reasonable and there are plenty of side dishes available alongside the main hotpot options.

Manee Me More

The Manee Me More restaurants are also a part of a chain, but this time there’s a bit more of an independent vibe to the branches. Expect American-themed vintage décor and a fun menu with dishes named after characters of Thai children’s television. The signature dish is a delicious prawn cooking sauce in the hotpot, made from an original-recipe prawn paste. This bad boy is thick, tangy and so very moreish and pretty much everything you cook in it will come out tasting amazing!

OK Shabu Shabu

This highly recommended joint has the most delicious chilli and garlic sauce that you’ll find anywhere in the city, and that’s really saying something. The menu features some nice touches that you won’t get elsewhere, like the ability to order your own individual hotpot in a different flavor to your buddies, and the seating is communal in a nod to Japanese design. This is a farang-friendly place and the menus run through the dishes in four different languages so no one need miss out.

Evaime Shabu

You want meat in your hotpot? Then you’ve come to the right place! Evaime Shabu does all the basics like good broth and reasonable prices very well, but the real draw is the signature meat spread. Imagine a one-meter long board, covered with slices of raw pork and beef, just waiting to sizzle into a sauce of your choosing. Sound amazing? Well it is! Carnivores everywhere will rejoice at the sight of this bad boy. You’ll probably be sharing your table with a bunch of students when you eat here but to be fair, they tend to know where the bargains are at!
