Fix Up, Look Sharp: The Best Barber Shops in Chiang Mai
The Best Barber Shops in Chiang Mai: A Cut Above the Rest
We know what it’s like. You’ve been having the best time in Thailand – hanging out with buddies, slamming shots, partying hard and generally wrecking yourself. This is great and we love to do it too! But every so often, do you look in the mirror and realize you might be looking a bit, well…worse for wear??! Luckily, there’s some true talent at a couple barber shops in Chiang Mai! And for some extra luck, they’re both pretty close to Bodega Chiang Mai!
It’s all very well jumping on pub crawls and punishing your liver but every once in a while, you might just need a little TLC. Barber shops in Thailand are a great place to head for a bit of downtime; the prices are way cheaper than you’re probably used to and the experience is second to none.
Why bother with a barber shop?
Although you might think your mate can shave your head over a sink and it will be fine, the mirror begs to differ! A barber can give you a style rather than just a haircut and they’ll often throw in a professional shave and face massage as well.
Added to this, the barbers in Chiang Mai are classy places to visit. There are no neon pink salon frills here, just stylish places that are set up to get you looking good and on your way with no fuss.
Imagine the place least like your image of a Thai barber, and you’ve got The Cutler. The décor is understated and more reminiscent of a trendy coffee bar than a hair salon; simple benches for waiting clients fill the space and the whitewashed walls are covered in vintage prints and hand-drawn murals.
The chairs for the customers are like something straight out of a 1920’s film. Imported from abroad, they’re traditional metal barber chairs with refurbished leather seats and a throne-like appearance. They’re a good place to spend a bit of time, which is lucky as every appointment lasts an hour!
The barbers themselves are highly skilled and all speak good English, so you don’t need to worry about asking for a number 1 buzz cut by mistake. Your hour includes all sorts of added extras so look forward to some hand-shaping with a razor, a cool towel treatment and a beard trim alongside the standard scissor cut.
Prices: Haircuts from 300 baht or $10 US, and a proper shave from 500 baht, or $16 US.

Also grabbing a piece of the barber action in Chiang Mai is Skills Barber, just outside the center in Huaykeaw. Skill prides itself on having a specialist member of staff for every different aspect of their service, so there will always be someone to help you no matter whether you’re after a fade cut, a professional color or a few jokes while you’re in the chair!
The décor here is simple but effective; a gleaming wooden floor and clean white walls give a modern, clean feel and the staff are well-trained and knowledgeable. Several of them have competed at the Barber Invitational in Maya Mall so you should be in safe hands!
If you’re after something a bit different then they are specialists in corn rows and hair tattoos, or if you’re feeling lazy then hit them up for a hair wash. It’s the best way to end a long and hot trek in the northern hills.
